I have been spending the last hour viewing your website. First of all, thank you for this wonderful site. I have thoroughly enjoyed everything.
My first daughter, who is now 20 months old, was born at home in the water. My midwife is experienced and has assisted in 30 waterbirths. My initial plans were to have a hospital birth with a midwife. However, after a lot of reading and research I understood that based on a normal pregnancy with no complications, I could have a healthy and safe home birth. After further reading, I began to find out more about waterbirths. I knew of nobody who had had a home birth, let alone a water birth. Even so, on my next visit with my midwife, I suggested a waterbirth. She expressed her delight and we set the plans for a waterbirth. I was 6 weeks away from my delivery.
I had light labour for 2 days. On the third day, being 2 weeks overdue, I went into active labour at home. I laboured and dilated outside the tub in my livingroom. The pain was quite overwhelming and I wasn't sure if I would be able to continue without painkillers. But as soon as I went into the tub, the pain immediately left. I can honestly say I had virtually no pain for the last 2 hours of the delivery while in the tub. I did have pain when she crowned but that lasted for a split second. I had three midwives attending this birth as well as my husband. He delivered our daughter.
I was fortunate to have a safe home water birth. If circumstances allow, I will definately be opting for another home water birth. There were many benefits of being in that water but the best of all was having virtually no pain at all.
