A retrospective study done by Bertil Jacobson in Stockholm, Sweden
compared 200 opiate addicts with their siblings (262) as the control
group. The main conclusion was that when the mother was given opiates,
barbiturates or nitrous oxide during labor, the child was 4.7 times more
at risk of becoming drug addicted in later life.
